Episodes in the Making of Geology

This is a book of interesting snippets, not a textbook of geology. Each chapter looks at some incident in the history of geology, mostly linked to the north-east of England.

It is told in anecdotes, in extracts from geologists' diaries, and (in one chapter) in a fictional reconstruction. Good for getting a feel for how the early geologists did things, and it can be dipped into or read through, as you like!
