An account of the use of molecular biology techniques in archaeology.

Martin Jones is a Professor of Archaeological Science at Cambridge and has published widely on the use of molecular biology techniques in archaeology. This is a more popular account, but does require some basic knowledge of biology and genetics. I suspect he was inspired by Crichton's Jurassic Park and the media circus following the film to present a more scientifically accurate picture of the state of knowledge and the techniques available. It's a really fascinating account of discoveries about prehistory, covering anthropology, zoology, agriculture, cultural history and even forensics. Has just gone out of print but is freely available secondhand. 280pp paperback; index; extensive references.
