World Resources 2008 : Roots of resilience : growing the wealth of the poor
This website provides access to "Roots of resilience : growing the wealth of the poor", the World Resources Report 2008, which examines the potential to scale up environmental income to assist the global, rural poor. The report was prepared by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Bank, and the World Resources Institute. The report can be downloaded in its entirety or as individual chapters and is available as PDF files.
United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) is one of five regional commissions created by the United Nations (UN) in order to fulfil the economic and social goals set out in the UN Charter by promoting cooperation and integration between the countries in each region of the world. The UNESCWA website provides details of its activities including its focus acreas of sustainable development and productivity, social development, economic development and globalisation, information and communication technology, statistics, women's affairs and emerging and conflict-related issues. Member countries are Egypt, Sudan, Yemen, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait and the Syrian Arab Republic.
UNICEF : statistics and monitoring
As part of its work, UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, collects and analyses data on women and children worldwide. It conducts the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS). It is also responsible for the global monitoring of the child-related Millennium Development Goals (MDG). This website provides country statistics, a tool for generating customised statistical tables, core indicators and details of MDG monitoring. Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency
The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) is an organisation managed by the Swedish government with the aim of reducing world poverty. SIDA provides international training programmes, funding and support, and works in partnership with many international organisations. The SIDA website provides details of its activities and publications; some available full text. The website is available in English and Swedish.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) produces an annual report on the activities of the organisation and its partners in aiming to help developing countries reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). This website provides the full text of the reports which are available as PDF files.
IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre
The IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre was founded in 1968 in the Netherlands with the aim of facilitating "the sharing, promotion and use of knowledge so that governments, professionals and organisations can better support poor men, women and children in developing countries to obtain water and sanitation services they will use and maintain". The IRC website provides details of its activities in areas including local governance, sanitation, transparency and accountability, innovative communication, financing and cost recovery, scaling up, gender and equality. Project summaries are provided together with a weekly bulletin, full text publications, a multilingual water thesaurus and details of events.
Pathways of women's empowerment
Pathways of Women's Empowerment is a consortium of five institutions which links academics, activists and practitioners who are working to advance women's empowerment for a five-year programme of work funded by the UK Department for International Development. Each institution forms the basis of a research hub working to identify regional priorities and opportunities. The website provides details of these hubs and of the project's research themes (conceptions of women's empowerment, empowering work, building constituencies for equality and justice, changing narratives of sexuality). The Rural Poverty Portal is a resource for information sharing provided by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). The website can be searched by topic, region or country and covers topics such as community-driven development, desertification, gender, indigenous peoples, land, livestock, market access, poverty reduction strategies, rural finance, rural institutions, trade liberalisation and water. The website is available in Arabic, English, French and Spanish.

This website provides access to "The wealth of the poor : managing ecosystems to fight poverty" the World Resources Report 2005 which examines ecosystems as a potential wealth-creating asset for the poor. The report was prepared by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Bank, and the World Resources Institute. International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie)
The International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) is an US-based non-profit organisation which seeks to evaluate the impact of development spending and initiatives with the aim of improving the lives of poor people living in low-income and middle-income countries. The 3ie website provides details of its grant programme, online resources including full text publications, details of its structure and activities, and a database of impact evaluations.
US greenhouse gas inventory
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) produces an annual inventory of greenhouse gas emissions and removals for submission to the United Nations in accordance with the Framework Convention on Climate Change. This website provides access to the current report and an archive of past reports back to 1990. The report can be viewed in its entirety or as individual sections and is available as PDF files.

The Participation Resource Centre provides this database of over 5,000 documents on participatory approaches to development, including rights, governance and citizenship. The documents are available to access at the Centre, and where available, details of other sources are given. The Resource Centre is located at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex.
